Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as an Accounts Assistant (Sugar division) to work in a truly global environment to work within a busy accounting team, working with individuals within the corporate control team, treasury, divisional reporting, trade accounting and other stakeholders in the ED&F Man group. The role involves working in a fast-paced environment with many different stakeholders located in multiple geographic locations.
The role would suit someone with little or no accounting experience but with a keen interest in developing a career in Accounting. The Company will sponsor and support professional accounting qualifications from AAT through to ACCA. The role will be office based.
Business Overview
ED&F Man Sugar source or process raw, white and specialty sugars from over 40 producing countries. We sell to refineries, industrial users, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers, offering local solutions though a number of in-country purchasing, sales and distribution businesses. As a founding member of Bonsucro, all our processing operations and trading hubs have the highest sustainability credentials, and we play an active role in developing the sustainability agenda.
We are part of ED&F Man Commodities , a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed. ED&F Man is part of Hartree Partners group.
Key Accountabilities
Centred around ad-hod Business Unit tasks to support the team. However, there will be specific tasks allocated the jobholder (training and guidance on all areas will be provided) which include:
- Collating month end reports and input information into a database to streamline month end processes;
- Ad hoc Purchase Invoice journals;
- Interest postings and bonds and guarantees reporting;
- Following up on debtor balances and monitor client balances and postings;
- Cash matching & unmatching tasks. Debtors balance confirmations including posting bad debt provisions;
- Assisting with monthly intercompany reconciliations and mismatch reporting and resolution;
- Assisting with VAT checking, matching and reconciliations;
- Contingency and storage premium cost preparation and posting;
- Assisting with annual audit evidence collation;
- Learning about other roles in the team to enable holiday cover and to assist generally;
- Ad hoc tasks as required.
Skills and Experience
- Strong A levels seeking an apprenticeship (no degree required)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills;
- Good team player;
- Resilient mindset with aptitude to learn;
- A self-starting attitude with initiative to suggest changes and improvements;
- Ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
