Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Head of Data Management to work in a truly global environment to oversee the collection, analysis, storage of data across the organisation, and use of data related to commodity markets, trading, prices, supply chains, logistics, etc. ensuring data quality, security, compliance, and governance across the organisation. Responsible for creating and implementing data policies and procedures, ensuring data quality and compliance, managing data management staff members, and providing strategic insights from data to inform business decisions. Working across all business units and corporate departments to understand business requirements for business intelligence, reporting, integration, and data. Working collaboratively to create a data strategy, then creating plans to implement the agreed strategy, delivering and reporting on the planned improvements.

Location: Hybrid / home-based flexible on location, with regular travel to the London and Bangalore offices, where the reporting teams are currently based.

Key Accountabilities

  • Conduct exploratory analysis of the current data landscape
  • Work closely with technology leads, key business stakeholders and 3rd party consultants to evolve a data strategy and gain key stakeholder approval
  • Recommend a go forward data architecture
  • Recommend BI and MI tools to improve business processes
  • Build relationships across the business and understand where data can add value
  • Promote the use of data across the business
  • Manage a team of talented data professionals to support the execution of data strategy
  • Review data working practices and work with the team to recommend improvements
  • Aggregate data based upon the agreed data strategy
  • Creating and enforcing policies for effective data management
  • Formulating techniques for quality data collection, handling, analysis, and sharing
  • Establishing rules and procedures for data governance, control, security, and compliance
  • Designing and executing data strategy aligned with business goals
  • Harnessing the power of data to support and grow business performance
  • Managing data technology transformation and innovation

 Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience in a technology-focused, high-performance industry or practice; commodities, financial trading or financial services preferred
  • Minimum 1st Degree in Computing Science, Engineering, Physics, Maths or relevant science discipline, especially those with a significant data and analytics basis
  • Strong background in data management and data governance within a corporate environment combined with an understanding data management & analysis skill sets
  • Experience of managing and leading data teams within a corporate environment
  • Experience of data and analytics in a cloud environment, migrating from an on-premise to a cloud environment, and running a hybrid data environment
  • Good working knowledge of MSSQL, No SQL, Python, R and other data related technologies
  • Certified in relevant IT qualifications; ITSM/ITIL V4/NIST/COBIT/TOGAF preferred
  • Data management: proficient in data collection, analysis, storage, and quality control
  • Data communication: able to present data findings and insights to various stakeholders in a clear and compelling way
  • Teamwork and collaboration: able to work with cross-functional teams and coordinate data initiatives across the organisation
  • Problem-solving and storytelling: able to identify data problems and solutions, as well as craft engaging stories that demonstrate the value of data
  • Risk and governance expertise: aware of the legal and ethical implications of data use and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Exceptional intellect: curious, a deep thinker, lifelong learner, inquisitive and prepared to question assumptions
  • Proactive and pre-emptive communicator; naturally intuitive in understanding when to communicate, the channel to use, and the influence style to apply
  • Demonstrable self-leadership, drive and energy
  • Strong skills in planning, organisation, scheduling, problem solving and dealing with conflicting priorities
  • Technology evangelist with a bias for pragmatism, an advocate for change through harnessing the benefits of technology
