Role Overview

We have a great opportunity for someone to join us as a District Sales Manager to be based in Texas (East side of Dallas) to cover the region around the town of Tyler, Texas. The role will be responsible for generating new business and managing existing business relationships and being the primary contact for beef and feed mill customers in the region, building customer relationships to achieve commercial goals in alignment with company objectives.

Business Overview

Westway Feed Products is North America’s largest manufacturer of liquid supplements for livestock. Additionally, we produce feed mill products, dried molasses and industrial products. The core concept of Westway’s business is to utilize co-products from other industries and convert them into safe, high-quality, cost effective, livestock feed supplements. While Westway’s primary ingredient for many of our products is molasses, we also incorporate other co-products. The concept of utilizing these co-products is the foundation of our sustainability platform. Today, Westway operates 22 production facilities across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Our geographic reach allows for products to be developed according to environmental and production system variations across the country.

We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for sales and technical sales conversations with new and existing customers based in and around the town of Tyler, Texas.
  • Scheduling appointments, conducting regular travel throughout the territory to meet current customers to maintain business relationships.
  • Prepare product pricing, sales contracts and credit for customers.
  • Coordinating with distributors and production facilities on sales and technical information for key product offerings.
  • Actively pursuing new business to expand the commercial activity in the territory.
  • Develop and implement strategic sales plans to accommodate corporate goals, controlling expenditures to conform to budgets.
  • Prepare reports showing business transactions, potential sales and areas of proposed customer expansion.
  • Coordinate orders from customers as necessary and collaborate with production facilities on customer orders and delivery.
  • Prepare annual sales budget, assisting with sales forecasting activities and setting performance goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate competitor performance and make recommendations to respond, keeping up to date on industry trends.
  • Providing customers with reports related to consumption, ready to provide customers with data as required.
  • Assist with collections by working with customers on payment and/or payment schedules.
  • Support team efforts as well as representing the company at industry functions and organizations as requested.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in sales, business development or account management, preferably within the beef feed industry, with a solid understanding of beef markets and trends.
  • Sales, marketing or nutritionist experience in preferably the dairy feed industry          combined with solid understanding of the dairy market and industry trends.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree educated in the field of ruminant nutrition, animal science or agricultural subjects would be preferred.
  • Strong ability to analyze market data and apply insights to drive growth.
  • Effective in negotiation skills and ability to problem-solve with thorough business and financial acumen.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building abilities with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to effectively present information and write report, exercising judgment and make decisions independently.
