Role Overview:

Volcafe has an opportunity for a strong Specialty Analyst to join its team in Addis Ababa.

The role of the Specialty Analyst is to support the Volcafe team in sourcing Ethiopian specialty coffees from growers and exporters across the coffee growing regions of the country, with significant contribution expected in promoting these coffees to clients worldwide.

The Specialty Analyst is a key member of the commercial team in Addis, with responsibility to ensure a smooth relationship with suppliers and clients on quality, pricing and delivery of specialty and premium qualities. The role will involve significant travel upcountry, requires consistent communication with various teams at destination. Experience in a modern coffee lab is required. The Specialty Analyst will report to the head of the General Manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • Identifying and building a working relationship with specialty suppliers.
  • Maintaining a current list of available lots.
  • Working closely with the QC team to generate and share sensory evaluation reports.
  • Organizing training and other events focused on suppliers of high-quality coffees.
  • Leading and contributing to projects and content aimed at serving the specialty community.
  • Overseeing the smooth execution of specialty purchases in close collaboration with the execution team.
  • Being a key resource person for various stakeholders involved in specialty supply chains.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Plant Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, International Trade, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in coffee production, processing, specialty sourcing, supply chain coordination, or related Agri-commodity operations. Experience in a dry mill is a plus.
  • Experience in coffee exports, with exposure to the specialty segment.
  • Capacity to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail orientation with proven skills in self- and work management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in both Amharic and English.
  • Able to operate in a modern corporate computing environment, with a background in data management being highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of Ethiopian specialty qualities, preferably with field experience.
  • Advanced computing skills and experience with task automation is considered a plus.
