Key Accountabilities

• Administer the end-to-end execution of physical cotton contracts, shipping instructions and Letters of Credit, collaborating cross-functionally with trade finance, commercial teams, service providers and counterparties.
• Manage the end-to-end trade documentation process for global shipments, ensuring accuracy, compliance and timely submission whilst driving continuous workflow improvements.
• Ensure timely submission of documentation to banks and customers, maintaining alignment with Letters of Credit and contractual requirements whilst minimizing operational risk.
• Monitor contract and trade performance, proactively identifying, escalating, and resolving delays or discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with Incoterms, export controls, sanctions and internal policies.
• Track shipments, documentation status, and inventory, resolving operational issues proactively and maintaining full visibility across the supply chain.
• Act as the senior liaison between commercial, trade finance, logistics, compliance, and external counterparties to ensure commercial alignment and resolution of escalated trade-related matters.
• Oversee invoicing, payment processing, and account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with contractual terms.
• Monitor inventory maintaining accurate stock-in/stock-out records for shipments, deliveries, and warehouse balances.
• Help drive the adoption of digital trade solutions and platforms, collaborating with IT teams to enhance system integration, data accuracy and workflow efficiency.
• Develop and maintain dashboards, KPIs and reporting mechanisms to identify opportunities for process improvement, and accelerate document turnaround.
• Mentor and support junior operations staff, acting as a subject matter expert in trade execution and Letters of Credit providing guidance on best practices.

Skills and Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in trade execution, operations or logistics within agricultural commodities; cotton preferred, with other soft commodities also welcomed.
• Strong knowledge of international trade processes, including trade documentation, Incoterms, Letters of Credit and logistics.
• Experience coordinating shipments and managing containerized freight operations.
• Analytical and detail-oriented, with the ability to work to deadlines.
• Strong communicator and collaborator, able to work effectively with internal teams, external customers and service providers.
• Proactive, problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent organizational skills, able to adhere to deadlines and ensure accuracy
• Comfortable with data analysis, creating reports, dashboards and KPIs using Excel or Power BI tools.

You’ll become a key part of a technology-first operation working closely with our experienced traders and operators, to help these teams make informed timely decisions. • Strong Python with Pandas (plus common companions like NumPy/pyarrow); solid SQL with Postgres and familiarity with Amazon Athena.

Key Accountabilities

• Develop, implement and manage regional procurement and contracting strategies, ensuring overall alignment with corporate objectives.
• Management of general buying positions, contract exposure, credit, freight and logistics in conjunction with the internal team, to meet or exceed budgeted volumes and margins.
• Achieve fiscal procurement through various contract options that align with the corporate strategy (e.g. Customer Basis Adjustment).
• Conduct analysis of the current and future agricultural trends alongside competitor analysis to develop and implement strategies to create commercial opportunities.
• Management of purchase contracts alongside internal support teams.
• Develop and maintain effective partnerships with customers (including agents) in respective regions, identifying new business opportunities whilst balancing profitability, market share and customer service.
• Provide customer learning opportunities that provide incremental value, regarding strategies in order to increase awareness of customer/business needs.
• Responsible for establishing marketing plans to achieve margin and volume objectives, alongside the trading team.
• Coordinate research, analysis and gathering of information to support the regional production and quality model.
• Track purchase levels for month end P&L to ensure reconciliation and weekly reports of market structure and activity in the region, related to trade levels, volumes and competitor information.
• Represents the business in regional industry groups.

Skills and Experience

• Substantial prior experience within the commodity buying / origination function, preferably within the cotton industry.
• Degree educated within preferably agriculture, agri-business, business administration or marketing.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers and colleagues in a competitive environment.
• Proven ability to identify opportunities to deepen relationships and improve client satisfaction and retention.
• Understanding of warehousing tariffs, trading terms and quality specifications

Digitalisation and continuous Improvement

• Lead digitalization of the supply chain operations and logistics workflows, including system integration, automation and performance visibility.
• Design and implement data-driven dashboards and KPIs to monitor trade efficiency and minimize documentation turnaround time, discrepancies, document issuance time and working capital usage across all geographies.

Skills and Experience

• Substantial global logistics management, trade execution or trade operations experience from agricultural soft commodity trading, preferably cotton, although metal trading is also relevant.
• Ability to work on own initiative, self-motivate and lead in high-pressure, time-sensitive trading environments.
• Knowledge and experience of contract management within trading, reimbursements and documentary, letters of credit.
• Deep knowledge of international trade documentation, Incoterms, and port/inland logistics.

Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Trade Operations Analyst to work in a truly global environment. This role will support our supply chain to ensure the seamless and compliant movement of cotton across domestic and international markets. The role provides long term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in the fast-paced soft commodities environment.

Business Overview

ED&F Man Cotton was established in mid-2025, driven by an ambition to become a leading trader of raw cotton, serving customers around the world. The breadth of ED&F Man Commodities’ existing operations provides ED&F Man Cotton with offices in all major cotton producing regions and expertise in operating sustainable containerised supply chains, underpinned by robust risk management procedures.

We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, cotton, molasses and animal feed.

The position is based from our offices in Houston, Texas.

Key Accountabilities

• Supporting the day-to-day supply chain operations related to the export of cotton from point of origin to end users.
• Track and report shipment status, coordinating movement of raw cotton bales.
• Negotiate freight with vendors for domestic and international shipments as well as international export bookings with ocean carriers.
• Coordinate logistics via ocean, rail and truck to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery, continuously reviewing to optimize freight costs.
• Prepare and verify trade documentations, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificates, offer sheets and shipping instructions.
• Responsible for minimizing storage costs through diligent scheduling of loads against all sales contracts.
• Work with Third Party Logistics providers and warehouses to resolve any issues in the supply chain.
• Ensure compliance with USDA, APHIS trade export requirements.
• Assist in managing cotton inventory, preparing and communicating inventory levels.
• Perform other duties as required.

Skills and Experience

• Educated at Bachelor’s Degree or higher, preferably in the field of Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Economics or similar related field.
• Prior experience in supply chain, logistics, or trade operations in agriculture.
• Knowledge of the transportation industry is an asset, including experience with inventory management and TMS systems (ITAS, broker platforms).
• Demonstrates understanding of Inco terms and ability to negotiate freight and truck rates.
• Excellent organizational skills, able to adhere to deadlines and ensure accuracy.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with data analysis tools.
• Working knowledge of USDA, APHIS export reporting, experience with export documentation and phytosanitary certification compliance is preferable.
• Knowledge of international cotton supply chain is preferable.
• Good attention to detail especially when doing trade reporting and data analysis.
• Problem solving mindset with a proactive approach to trade operations.
