Role Overview

We have a great opportunity for someone to join us as a District Sales Manager based in the Amarillo or Lubbock area, covering new and existing customers in the Texas Panhandle and Eastern New Mexico territory. The role will be responsible for generating new business and managing existing business relationships and being the primary contact for beef and feed mill customers in the region, building customer relationships to achieve commercial goals in alignment with company objectives.

Business Overview

Westway Feed Products is North America’s largest manufacturer of liquid supplements for livestock. Additionally, we produce feed mill products, dried molasses and industrial products. The core concept of Westway’s business is to utilize co-products from other industries and convert them into safe, high-quality, cost effective, livestock feed supplements. While Westway’s primary ingredient for many of our products is molasses, we also incorporate other co-products. The concept of utilizing these co-products is the foundation of our sustainability platform. Today, Westway operates 22 production facilities across the United States, Canada and Mexico. Our geographic reach allows for products to be developed according to environmental and production system variations across the country.

We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.

Home-based, ideally in the Texas Panhandle or Eastern New Mexico with weekly travel to customers in this region and to the two key plants in Hereford TX and Clovis NM.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responsible for managing and growing Westway’s dairy feed business in the region.
  • Conduct technical sales conversations with both dairies and dairy nutritionists, both independently and in conjunction with Westway’s Dairy Technical support team.
  • Manage and prepare product pricing and sales contracts for customers.
  • Maintain a territory business plan, including sales goals, customer performance, prospect lists, competitive pressure, and forecasts.
  • Identify and help coordinate the installation and service of necessary liquid feed storage tanks and equipment with customers.
  • Represents the company at industry functions and organizations as required.
  • Take the initiative to identify problems, use judgment to find appropriate solutions and follow through on resolving issues in a timely manner.

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated competency in sales and business development and growth, preferably from a livestock feed product sales background.
  • Deep understanding of the dairy industry, market and industry trends.
  • Masters or PHD in Ruminant Nutrition/Dairy Nutrition and/or extensive experience as a dairy nutritionist – highly advantageous.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with highly technical nutritionists, dairymen, and internal functional teammates.
  • Ability to interact with and establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and customers.
  • High motivation level with the ability to perform work with considerable independence under the general direction of supervisor.  Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions independently.
