Role Overview
We are seeking a talented and ambitious individual to join our trading department at ED&F Man Liquid Products. This is a unique opportunity to manage procurement, sales, and logistics in both domestic and international markets. The initial focus will be on gaining a comprehensive understanding of the molasses market, trade flows, and logistics, with hands-on training across all trading and logistical functions. Through active participation in daily trading operations and collaboration with internal teams, the successful candidate will build the expertise necessary to identify market opportunities and execute trading strategies. This role provides long term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in the fast-paced soft commodities environment.
Business Overview
ED&F Man Liquid Products Division is the leading global supplier in molasses, molasses blends and related liquid products as well as dry products for primarily the animal feed and fermentation industries. We are a pioneer as well as a trader in liquid agricultural by- and co-products. We offer expertise in animal nutrition and feed dispense technology to farmers. We work closely with manufacturers, such as rum and yeast producers, to provide quality products from sustainable sources. Our capability includes sourcing, shipping, storage and distribution of molasses, molasses blends and other sugar co-products, as well as vegetable and fish oils.
We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.
Key Accountabilities
- Market analysis and strategy: Monitor global molasses markets, analyze supply and demand trends, and develop trading strategies to maximize profitability.
- Sourcing and procurement: Identify and negotiate with suppliers to secure molasses and other liquid by-products at competitive prices.
- Sales and business development: Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers, including feed manufacturers and fermentation clients, to drive sales and expand market reach.
- Logistics and supply chain management: Work alongside MLP logistics team to coordinate transportation, storage, and delivery of molasses, ensuring timely and cost-effective distribution.
- Risk management: Assess and mitigate market risks, including price volatility, currency fluctuations, and geopolitical factors affecting trade.
- Contract negotiation: Draft, review, and manage purchase and sales contracts, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Regulatory compliance: Stay informed of import/export regulations, quality standards, and environmental policies affecting molasses trading.
- Financial and performance reporting: Track trading performance, analyze profit margins, and provide regular reports to management on trading activities.
Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of commercially focused work experience (trading, sales account management or procurement) preferably but not limited to commodities or FMCG.
- Commercial mindset, with excellent interpersonal skills, and the drive and ability, to build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and customers.
- Bachelor’s degree in business (preferably supply chain, finance, economics and/or sales and marketing).
- Logical and numerate with good analytical skills and business acumen.
- A strong focus on performance; able to set high standards, goal orientated, ambitious and able to maintain performance under pressure.
- Self-starter with a positive, can-do attitude, proactive and focused on execution.
- Flexible, resilient and adaptable; eager to experience different working environments and able to adjust and respond quickly to the challenges of a constantly changing market and complex supply chain
- Keen to take on new challenges.
- Must be very organized and able to work within tight deadlines with minimum supervision.
- Meticulous with strong attention to detail.
- Excel, Word and PowerPoint experience required.
Able to travel 25-30% of the time to ensure positive working relationships with customers and suppliers
