We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Terminal Manager to work in a truly global environment to effectively, efficiently and safely operate a newly created terminal for receipt, storage and loading of molasses. This is a brand new facility and the first location for the division in Indonesia. The role provides potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in the fast-paced soft commodities environment.

Business Overview

ED&F Man Liquid Products is the leading global supplier in molasses, molasses blends and related liquid products as well as dry products for primarily the animal feed and fermentation industries. We are a pioneer as well as a trader in liquid agricultural by- and co-products. We offer expertise in animal nutrition and feed dispense technology to farmers. We work closely with manufacturers, such as rum and yeast producers, to provide quality products from sustainable sources. Our capability includes sourcing, shipping, storage and distribution of molasses, molasses blends and other sugar co-products, as well as vegetable and fish oils.

ED&F Man is owned by Hartree Partners, LP a leading global merchant commodities firm facilitating the flow of energy, metals, agriculture, and environmental products across the full commodity supply chain, connecting producers and consumers. Hartree was founded in 1997, is jointly owned by senior management and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, LP, and employs around 5,000 individuals worldwide.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supervise the safe and efficient day-to-day operation of the storage terminal, ensuring all product receipt, storage, transfer and dispatch activities are completed in accordance with operational, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Assist with the planning, installation, commissioning and successful start-up of the new terminal facility, working closely with local and global stakeholders to ensure operational readiness and business objectives are achieved.
  • Support and actively participate in vessel and truck loading and discharge operations, including working outside normal office hours when operational requirements demand.
  • Operate and oversee terminal equipment, including diesel-driven hydraulic pumps and associated transfer systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • Manage the safe storage, handling and movement of products in accordance with product specifications, quality standards, customer requirements and regulatory obligations.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, inventory documentation and reporting in accordance with company systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage terminal inventory, including stock reconciliation, investigation of inventory gains and losses, inventory reporting and ensuring the accuracy of stock records.
  • Monitor product quality throughout storage and handling operations, ensuring product integrity is maintained and any quality issues are identified and addressed promptly.
  • Plan, coordinate and, where practical, execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities to maximise equipment reliability and minimise operational downtime.
  • Coordinate the inspection, testing and calibration of terminal measuring, gauging and testing equipment to ensure operational accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Supervise contractors, visitors and third-party service providers, ensuring full compliance with site safety rules, permit-to-work systems and operational standards.
  • Identify operational risks and respond effectively to operational challenges, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient terminal performance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through compliance with company policies, industry standards and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and Experience:

  • A University or College qualification in Engineering, Marine Studies or a related technical discipline is preferred. Candidates with extensive relevant industry experience and technical qualifications will also be strongly considered.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in liquid storage terminals, bulk liquid handling, tank farms, industrial process operations or seagoing tanker operations is essential.
  • Strong hands-on technical capability with experience operating and maintaining terminal equipment and supporting maintenance activities.
  • Sound understanding of liquid storage, product transfer systems, inventory management, product handling processes and terminal operations.
  • Experience managing inventory movements, including product receipt, dispatch, reconciliation, reporting and investigation of inventory variances.
  • Understanding of product quality management during storage and handling operations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to respond effectively to operational challenges.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and capable of working independently while maintaining high operational standards.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays, when vessel schedules or operational requirements require.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with a commitment to safety, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with contractors, transport providers, customers and internal operational teams.
  • Residing in, or willing to relocate to, the Lampung area is preferred.
