Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Quality Control Assistant to work in a truly global environment to ensure that all cherries, purchased, processed, dried, stored and dispatched conform to the specified buyers’, company’s and UCDA quality standards stipulated in the Coffee Regulations. This position plays a key role also in setting and maintaining our quality standards and regular dialogue with customers and requires a great understanding of our trading quality components, trading rationale and value/PnL generation by blending and optimizing quality without taking excessive risks and reporting to Quality Manager. The role provides long term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in the fast-paced soft commodities environment.

This role will be working for PT Volkopi Indonesia (Lampung) Volcafe’s company in Indonesia.

Key Accountabilities

  • Coordinate with the Quality Head or Trade Team to communicate customer quality specifications to the Production Manager and factory Quality Team.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, reviews, and documentation of the Quality Team’s activities under Production to ensure coffee processing meets customer expectations.
  • Ensure the Quality Team shares quality results with the Production Team and that all coffee transferred to storage complies with customer standards.
  • Timely allocation of coffee for processing (processing & Bulking) and export as per customer requirement. Target to load Arabica within 3 months and Robusta within 6 months.
  • Aim for zero consignment rejection upon delivery at the destination.
  • Address issues raised by the Quality Team under Production within 24 hours; escalate unresolved matters promptly and ensure thorough follow-up.
  • Ensure all quality staff working under production meet performance target and monitor quarterly.
  • Provide manpower planning updates to the Quality Head annually in July.
  • Ensure the quality team in production uses correct tools with valid certification to analysis coffee.
  • Ensure quality team working under production uses correct PPE.
  • Maintain shipment samples and quality reports accurately.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science and technology or a related field.
  • Certified Q Grader, with a strong understanding of coffee quality standards.
  • Skilled in sample roasting, cupping setup and cleanup, and reporting results using tastify.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in the coffee industry or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret data effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to lead and collaborate with teams in a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, negotiation, cultural awareness, and interpersonal skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite skills, especially MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
