Role Overview
We have a unique and newly created opportunity for someone to join us as an Assistant Plant Manager to assist in managing the day-to-day operations and supervision of 4 operators and seasonally fluctuating temporary operators at our newly acquired blending facility in Gaffney, South Carolina. You will support the Plant Manager in maximising efficiency, safety and profitability, and ensuring customer needs are met. Working within our highly diverse business you will have the opportunity to make a real impact working on a range of projects while supporting the day-to- day management of the plant.

ED&F Man Feed Ingredients is a leading trader and processor of animal protein by-products servicing the global feed ingredient market. Located in Gaffney, South Carolina we are ideally positioned to source and distribute ingredients, both within the United States and, thanks to our close proximity to strategic US ports, overseas. Our focus is to provide safe, high-quality, value-added feed ingredients to the global animal feed, pet food and aquaculture feed markets.
We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.
Key Accountabilities
- Directly supervises and coordinates the activities of the facility staff, assisting with staff recruitment, training, performance management, compensation, and discipline.
- Coordinates production, receiving, shipping and ensures orders are filled correctly.
- Observes and makes recommendations regarding the efficiency of the Plant’s operational processes, identifying any problems, finding appropriate solutions and follows through on resolutions, in a timely manner.
- Assists in planning and coordinating customer service, acting as a contact for customers in conjunction with Plant Manager.
- Coordinates with office staff regarding work product and orders, ensuring orders are correctly fulfilled.
- Promotes company policies and procedures ensuring a safe and environmentally responsible workplace, assisting with safety and quality meetings and inspections.
- Ensures all production and product mixing and blending is carried out as per company policies and regulations and coordinating the logistics of product.
- Plans and completes record keeping programs required for regulatory compliance.
- Assists with terminal audits and inspection.
- Supports team efforts, generates respect, enthusiasm, and cooperation with others.
- Works with plant manager on inventory management.
- Maintains liaison with company accounts payable/receivables, HR and IT departments, to ensure compliant reporting as required.
- Data administration of the internal accounting and trading platform, as well as producing and revising documents in Microsoft Excel, Word and PDF.
Skills and Experience
- Manufacturing operations experience OR related terminal, refinery, or dry handling experience.
- Knowledge and experience of industrial health and safety best practise.
- Knowledge of and ability to supervise small teams.
- Skills and experience in operating equipment, hand and power tools.
- Knowledge and experience in the correct use of protective clothing and equipment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents (regulations, policies, reports, bids, etc.), blueprints, drawings.
- Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information, communicate with colleagues, management, and customers.
- Proficient in Microsoft office software and ability to learn new software.
