Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Research Analyst to work in a truly global environment joining our commercial trading team in our regional headquarters in Amsterdam for the European, Asian, and African business. You will provide data analysis, and reports to support the trading team, providing concise accurate summaries and forming opinions and insights on the markets. You will also be required to prepare presentations to customers and third parties. The role provides long term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in the fast-paced soft commodities environment.

ED&F Man Liquid Products Division is the leading global supplier in molasses, molasses blends and related liquid products as well as dry products for (mainly) the animal feed industry. We are a pioneer as well as a trader in liquid agricultural by-and- co-products. We offer expertise in animal nutrition and feed dispense technology to farmers. We work closely with manufacturers, such as rum and yeast producers, to provide quality products from sustainable sources. Our capability includes sourcing, shipping, storage and distribution of molasses, molasses blends and other sugar co-products, as well as vegetable and fish oils.

We are part of ED&F Man Commodities, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses and animal feed.

Key Accountabilities

  • Collecting data and information from primary sources, structuring and analysing data and information for the commercial trading team.
  • Keeping constant track of emerging trends in the commodities sector.
  • Pro-actively keeping the traders up to date on what news, reports and events move and effect the market.
  • Provide monthly updates on supply and demand estimates and import and export volumes.
  • Regularly provide distribution offices with updates and reports.
  • Prepare and present updates on market insights to trading team on a weekly basis.
  • Opportunity to work on a variety of adhoc business projects with cross-functional teams.
  • Prepare and present market updates to third parties including key customers.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in agriculture, international business, economics or any other relevant subject.
  • 2 years minimum analytical or research-based experience in the physical commodities sector preferably agricultural soft commodities.
  • English essential and Dutch highly advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with a pragmatic, commercial in approach.
  • Highly self-motived, inquisitive with an appetite to learn.
  • Excellent presentation skills and the confidence to engage well with all internal and external stakeholders including key customers.
  • Excels in a team environment and is proactive, collaborative, and collegial.
  • Strong communication skills, driven and good interpersonal skills.
  • High level of integrity, flexibility, ability to work under pressure and self-reflection are key attributes to perform this role.
  • MS Office skills including excel and powerpoint.
